For nearly a decade, Think About Your Eyes has been encouraging people to protect their vision health by scheduling an annual comprehensive eye exam. In 2020 though, we all shifted our focus to protecting ourselves, our families, and our friends from COVID-19. That meant a change in the healthcare priorities of the world from what was important to what was critical. According to the American Medical Association, 41% of us cancelled or put-off preventative healthcare appointments, and The Vision Council reports that more than 16 million Americans delayed or cancelled their scheduled eye exams.
The world experienced a stressful year together, and as we begin to return to work, school, and leisure activities, it is clear that Think About Your Eyes needs to evolve to help the public navigate a new awareness about health and wellness. We are excited to announce the formation of the Vision Health Alliance, a new movement to bring together companies, non-profits, and healthcare professionals so that we can do more than just encourage patients to schedule a comprehensive eye exam.
Our new, more impactful mission is to help you navigate your eye health journey by providing information and resources that help you understand the connection of eyecare and vision health to your overall health. Over the course of the last year, we have all changed – and our mission is changing with us.
We strive to be a regular, trusted resource for you, so we hope you will check back with us often. And remember, eye care is healthcare.
